About ITIL

The IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a set of best practices that address the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective IT services. For IT Operations teams, ITIL offers guidance for deploying changes to IT services within ITIL’s IT Service Management (ITSM) disciplines through activities called Release Management and Change Management.

Release and Change Management provide guidance for IT organizations to review, prioritize, approve, build, test, execute and evaluate changes. ITIL recommends pre-deployment testing to assess potential production impact.

Improving Change Management through Pre-deployment Testing

As software infrastructures become increasingly business and revenue critical, the rate of change across IT continues to escalate. Often, IT operations teams have no way to predict the impact of such changes pre-deployment, and lack confidence that changes can be deployed without adverse impact to production systems. This trend is more challenging than ever before, with IT operations groups under tremendous pressure to maintain nearly 100% application availability.

ITIL addresses this problem with Configuration, Change, and Release Management processes. However, without process engineering and product investments, IT organizations lack the knowledge they need to fully leverage ITIL's recommendations. Too often this lack of knowledge results in changes being deployed to production without adequate testing which, in turn, creates production problems and downtime.

Join EMA Senior Analyst Julie Craig and StackSafe Senior Product Manager Dennis Powell for this 1-hour Webinar to discuss how IT operations can simplify the task of predicting the impact of changes to the software infrastructure. Topics will cover:

  • The difference in testing capabilities between software development teams and IT operations
  • How testing of changes fits into the ITIL V2 and V3 frameworks
  • The impact of increased distributed applications, such as SOA, on changes and testing
  • The link between testing of changes and reductions in production problems
  • The cost and management challenges associated with traditional staging and testing strategies
  • How virtualization technologies are being implemented to improve staging and testing solutions for IT operations teams

If you or anyone on your team is responsible for pre-deployment testing, you cannot afford to miss this event.
