Posted July 11th, 2008 by Joe PendryDowntime seems to be a big issue for several companies this week. Google is the newest addition to downtime’s hit list. Google Docs went down for about 45 minutes on Tuesday after a string of features on the site stopped working.
As much press as Twitter stirred up with downtime reports, the infamous micro-blogging site’s efforts to achieve better stability seem to be paying off. Reports show that in a span of one week (from July 1st – 7th), it use to take “5041.95 milliseconds to respond to a request, now it takes 1776.01 milliseconds.” People will probably be happy see less of the ‘Fail Whale’.
In a recent study about the Enterprise IT, Andrew McAfee and Erik Brynjolfsson of the Harvard Business Review points out how critical it is for IT to perform more efficiently due to “businesses being almost zero sum.” The adoption of enterprise technology is now the silver lining for the business success.
