The global results of Symantec Corporation’s fourth annual IT Disaster Recovery survey revealed a significant decline in executive involvement in disaster recovery planning. The report noted an increase in the number of organizations reevaluating their disaster recovery (DR) plans due to virtualization. About 55 percent of respondents globally said that virtualization was the major cause for the reevaluation and need of automation and cross-platform tools.

The Art Service, a provider of IT courses, is offering a diverse curriculum on virtualization, SaaS and cloud computing in hopes of leading the way in new enterprise virtualization. The first of five new courses launched this week and compliments their existing IT Service Management and ITIL courses.

Forrester Research released its report on emerging trends that CIOs need to know and hot IT jobs. Six trends for CIOs were defined as technology populism, the information workplace, dynamic business applications, digital business architecture, IT ecosystems and enterprise master data management. The hot IT jobs, which were ranked from ‘hot to hottest,’ include desktop virtualization experts, enterprise project managers, enterprise architects and information security experts.

Going green continues to be an emerging trend – especially with data centers. Why should IT go green and how should they do it? A Forrester survey revealed that 65 percent of respondents believe that reduction of energy operating costs is the driving factor for implementing Green IT. Cloud computing and virtualization are the strategies listed to reduce energy-dependency – making organizations truly green.
